Who needs a Trade License?
Any business conducting commercial activities (trade, commerce, or industry) within municipal limits must obtain this license. This includes shops, offices, factories, and food joints.
Is it a one-time registration?
No. In Bengaluru a trade licence can be taken for 1 to 5 years and must be renewed before it ends; renewal opens in February and a penalty starts from March. Other cities have their own rules.
Can I run a business from home without it?
If your business involves customer footfall, storage of goods, or manufacturing at home, you typically need a license. Freelancers or online businesses without inventory might be exempt, depending on local laws.
